  • First the fuel has to be removed. The tanks on the port side are already prepared to be drained but work is stopped due to weather. It will take 2-3 weeks to drain those 6 tanks. Then they need to get to the tanks on the submerged side, which will be much more difficult.

  • I am aquainted with someone that was on the cruise. The amount offered, which includes loss of personal items and cruise fare, plus additional airfares and transfers to the ship just barely covers her expenses. That total is in the $18,500 range.

  • JohnScott, even with all that is available to navigate a ship, program it wrong and you can have a disaster. Early reports indicate the ship was off course 2 to 4 miles which put the ship on a course to hit rocks/coral reefs off the coast of the island.

  • z0hra, International maritime laws apply and that includes muster drills within 24 hours of setting off. Whilst it's true that the majority, probably 98% of cruises have the drills just prior to sailing, the drill can be held within the first 24 hours.

  • Tortcots, pretty harsh judgement you are expressing. The woman took the baby but was being pushed down. It wasn't like she was sitting in a lifeboat and was handed the child. She wasn't even certain of her own survival at that point.
